IndyCar changes Qualifying process for Street Circuits

After the success of the new format of qualifying in the Streets of Arlington, IndyCar Series announced the updated format for the four street races remaining in the 2026 season. Also, after qualifying order is determined, teams will decide the their tire selection, prior to lining up in single-file and in order of their qualifying run, at pit out to await their qualifying attempt.

“The debut of single-car Firestone Fast Six qualifying in Arlington was extremely popular and well received,” INDYCAR President J. Douglas Boles said. “Following the event, we reached out to stakeholders to help evaluate the format and look into ways to improve an already exciting session. This slight update will provide the fastest from the Top 12 an earned advantage of choosing when they would like their run in the Fast Six, while tire selection before lining up at pit out will save time and more closely equalize the session.

“With continued input from teams, drivers and our partners at FOX Sports, we believe these updates will further highlight the close competition and perfection it takes to start at the front of the grid.”

In Long Beach, Detroit, Markham and Washington during the Firestone Fast Six will be single-car and single lap, the order will be based on the Fastest Twelve.

In case the weather impact the segment or conditions that change significantly the track surface, the series will have two options:

• Revert to standard procedures, the six car get green-flag six minutes to set their fastest laps, the lap time rank the top 6.
• Use the results from segment 2.

After the 2026 season, IndyCar will evaluate to implement this update version in 2027.

Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach will happen in April 17-19. The qualifying is schedule for April 18 at 6:30pm on  FS1, FOX One, the FOX Sports app and INDYCAR Radio in USA.

While the coverage of the race will happen in April 19 at 5:30pm ET on on FOX, FOX Deportes, FOX One, the FOX Sports app and INDYCAR Radio in USA.

Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach will happen in April 17-19. The qualifying is schedule for April 18 at 19:30 on Disney+ Premium, Band and IndyCar LIVE.

Após o sucesso do novo formato de classificação nas ruas de Arlington, a IndyCar Series anunciou o formato atualizado para as quatro corridas de rua restantes da temporada de 2026. Além disso, após a definição da ordem de classificação, as equipes escolherão seus pneus antes de se alinharem em fila única, na ordem de suas voltas de classificação, na saída dos boxes, para aguardar sua tentativa.

“A estreia da classificação individual Firestone Fast Six em Arlington foi extremamente popular e bem recebida”, disse o presidente da INDYCAR, J. Douglas Boles. “Após o evento, contatamos as partes interessadas para ajudar a avaliar o formato e buscar maneiras de aprimorar uma sessão que já era emocionante. Essa pequena atualização dará aos pilotos mais rápidos entre os 12 primeiros a vantagem de escolher quando querem fazer sua volta no Fast Six, enquanto a seleção de pneus antes do alinhamento nos boxes economizará tempo e tornará a sessão mais equilibrada.

“Com a contribuição contínua das equipes, pilotos e nossos parceiros da FOX Sports, acreditamos que essas atualizações destacarão ainda mais a competição acirrada e a perfeição necessárias para largar na frente do grid.”

Em Long Beach, Detroit, Markham e Washington, durante o Firestone Fast Six, cada corrida será disputada individualmente, com apenas uma volta. A ordem de classificação será baseada nos doze carros mais rápidos.

Caso o clima afete o segmento ou as condições da pista alterem significativamente a superfície, a categoria terá duas opções:

• Retornar aos procedimentos padrão: os seis carros terão seis minutos de bandeira verde para registrar suas voltas mais rápidas, e o tempo de volta classificará os seis melhores.
• Utilizar os resultados do segundo segmento.

Após a temporada de 2026, a IndyCar avaliará a implementação desta atualização em 2027.

O Grande Prêmio Acura de Long Beach acontecerá de 17 a 19 de abril. A classificação está marcada para 18 de abril, às 18h30 (horário local), com transmissão pela FS1, FOX One, aplicativo FOX Sports e INDYCAR Radio nos EUA.

A corrida será transmitida em 19 de abril, às 17h30 (horário local), pela FOX, FOX Deportes, FOX One, aplicativo FOX Sports e INDYCAR Radio. Rádio INDYCAR nos EUA.
