Indy500: Where Legends Are Made

      Older than a century, 500 miles, IF you win you become immortal, that’s ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing’.

      First let’s talk about the scenery, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, envisioned by Carl Fisher, along with his partners James Allison, Arthur Newby, and Frank Wheeler, in 1909, founded the second purpose-built, banked oval racing circuit, but the first one to be call ‘speedway’, and the third oldest permanent race track in the world behind Brooklands in England and the Milwaukee Mile. The goal was to have a proving place for the automobile industry.

      The first Indianapolis 500-Mile Race, held on May 30, 1911, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, after 6h 42min the winner was the American driver, Ray Harroun, driving the #32 Marmon “Wasp” with an early rearview mirror, allowing him to drive without a riding mechanic.

      Some facts:

• The IMS is a rectangular oval of 2.500 mi (4.023 km).
• This temple has a nickname, the ‘Brickyard’ due to at the first the surface was paved in brick, One yard (91.44cm) of the brick remains exposed at the start/finish line.
• In 115 years the race was on hiatus twice, from 1917 to 1918 and from 1942 to 1945 due to both World War
• The event was part of FIA World Championships twice, from 1925 to 1928 the World Manufacturers' Championship, and between 1950 to 1960 the World Drivers' Championship
• Traditionally, the The Greatest Spectacle in Racing happens over the last weekend of May, the Memorial Day weekend
• Along with the 24h of Le Mans and Monaco Grand Prix, the Indy 500 is part of the Triple Crown of Motorsport
• There are additional entries beyond the full-time IndyCar teams are being finalized to fill the 33-car grid. In 2026, we have confirmed Helio Castroneves, Takuma Sato, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Hollywood Harvey, Conor Daly and Ed Carpenter as extra drivers to try to get the glory

• Em 115 anos, a corrida foi interrompida duas vezes, de 1917 a 1918 e de 1942 a 1945, devido às duas Guerras Mundiais.
• O evento fez parte do Campeonato Mundial da FIA duas vezes: de 1925 a 1928, no Campeonato Mundial de Fabricantes, e de 1950 a 1960, no Campeonato Mundial de Pilotos.
• Tradicionalmente, o Maior Espetáculo do Automobilismo acontece no último fim de semana de maio, o fim de semana do Memorial Day.
• Juntamente com as 24 Horas de Le Mans e o Grande Prêmio de Mônaco, as 500 Milhas de Indianápolis fazem parte da Tríplice Coroa do Automobilismo.
